Self-acclaimed Dancehall King Charles Nii Armah-Mensah Jnr better known as Shatta Wale has urged his fans to desist from comparing him with Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.
Shatta Wale and Daddy Lumba have etched their names with impressive catalogues filled with chart-topping songs that have earned them multiple awards.
Daddy Lumba reigned and became very prominent in the Ghanaian music scene from the early 1990s to the 2000s.
Shatta Wale began his career in the early 2000s as ‘Bandana’ before rebranding to Shatta Wale. The celebrated Dancehall artiste through hard work and consistency has become a household name in the music scene.
Daddy Lumba won the Ghana Music Awards (GMA) ‘Artiste of the Year’ in 2000, and Shatta Wale followed in his footsteps by clinching the same award 14 years later.
Fans of both musicians are torn between who has more hits and who is still relevant in the music industry considering their many achievements and timeless hit tracks.
Although both artistes reigned in different eras and did different genres of music, the comparison was based on who had more hits than the other.
In a post on social media, Shatta Wale labelled the comparison as disrespectful.
According to the ‘Ayoo’ hitmaker, he has the utmost respect for the history of Daddy Lumba and that the highlife legend had a significant impact on Ghanaian music.
“It is very disrespectful to compare me to the legend Daddy Lumba, Everyone should stop that because the man in question paved the way for your favs and me myself,” Wale tweeted.
