The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has officially welcomed Virgin Atlantic’s decision to resume operations in Ghana, with flights set to begin in May 2025.

This development marks a significant milestone as Virgin Atlantic becomes the 25th international airline to operate out of Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The announcement was made by Virgin Atlantic on September 2, revealing that the airline will maintain a daily flight schedule using the state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

This move not only enhances Ghana’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa but also provides travellers with expanded connectivity options to global destinations.

In a statement, the GACL highlighted that Virgin Atlantic’s return reflects the robust growth and potential of Ghana’s aviation sector.

“We are thrilled to welcome Virgin Atlantic back to Ghana, which will become the 25th international airline to operate at KIA.

“We look forward to collaborating with Virgin Atlantic to ensure seamless launch of their operations and continued facilitation at the airport”, the Managing Director of GACL, Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare said.

She further revealed that GACL is considering optimising the use of Terminal 2 at KIA by reallocating some airlines to operate from there. This strategy aims to decongest Terminal 3, reduce long queues, and enhance the overall passenger experience.
