The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region have vowed to resist attempts by their opponents and security forces who interfere with the electoral process during the upcoming December polls.
Addressing a campaign rally at the Old Tafo Constituency, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Nana Akwasi, levelled a series of allegations against the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Nana Akwasi accused Chairman Wontumi of the NPP of using financial incentives to sway members of his own party, a charge that has heightened tensions between the two leading political parties in the region.
“Your party is unpopular and when you go anywhere in your own stronghold, you don’t get people following you. You want to be in the news so you’ve gone to pay people to remove our branded shirts and wear that of the NPP. Now even if you give out the NPP shirt to anyone for free, nobody likes to take it.
“Even if you add money, they still reject it. We are sending this message to him that if he wants to campaign, he should focus on that. I am sending a strong warning to him. If he does the same, the aftermath will not be pleasant,” he stated.
