The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has emphatically stated that any political party in power must respect the will of the people and hand over power when the time comes, as mandated by the national constitution.
Speaking at a gathering in Tamale, Bagbin stressed that the constitution clearly vests power in the people, whose choices at the polls must be upheld.
“Those, who make utterances that they won’t hand over power, will have no choice but to do so because the Constitution says so, and the power is with the people,” he said.
His remarks come amid recent statements from some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) including the Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong that the NPP would not hand over power to the opposition NDC.
