Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticised former President John Dramani Mahama, labelling him as divisive and unfit to lead Ghana again.
Speaking at Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua Constituency on Tuesday, Dr Opoku Prempeh emphasised the need for a leader who can unite the country, accusing Mahama of making public statements that create divisions and tension among Ghanaians.
He contrasted Mahama’s approach with that of Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, whom he described as a unifier with the right qualities to lead the nation.
“The president should be a father to the entire country and its citizens. We need Dr. Bawumia, who embodies the traits of a unifier,” Dr. Opoku Prempeh said.
He went on to accuse Mahama of using tribal rhetoric for political gain, referencing past comments where Mahama allegedly suggested that the NPP is an Akan party and would never allow Dr Bawumia, a northerner, to lead them.
“John Mahama boldly stated that there is no way that the NPP will allow Dr Bawumia, who’s a northerner, to lead them as their presidential candidate. Dr. Bawumia is now the proud presidential candidate of the NPP, so what will John Mahama say now?” Napo asked.
He condemned Mahama’s alleged divisive statements, arguing that Ghanaians share a common destiny and that there is no place for tribalism in the nation’s leadership.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh urged voters to support Dr. Bawumia, whom he described as a development-oriented leader capable of uniting the country and steering it towards prosperity.
“Dr. Bawumia is a unifier, and he is leading the NPP, a national political party. We should vote for him to unite and move the country forward,” he concluded.
