The Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has announced plans to visit the construction site of housing units for victims of the Akosombo dam spillage within the next 14 days.
He will be accompanied by the Volta Regional Minister to investigate the reasons behind the project’s delay.
This comes after the Chairman of the Governance and Assurance Committee, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, expressed concerns about the prolonged completion of the housing units.
Mr Ablakwa highlighted that victims are still residing in tents a year after the disaster.
In response to these concerns during the committee’s sitting in Accra on Wednesday, Mr Nkrumah said he and the regional minister are scheduled to visit the construction sites within the next 14 days to engage with the contractors.
Based on this engagement, they will obtain an update on the project’s status and clarify the revised timelines for its completion.
“As I mentioned to you earlier, chairman, myself and the regional minister are built to pay a visit to the construction sites in the next 14 days, to engage with the contractors and based on that engagement, we’ll get an update.”
“Chairman, we have built to visit the site within the next 14 days to engage with the contractors and find out the reasons for which they are behind schedule. When that is done, we’ll have clarity on their updated timelines to finish the work,” he stated.
