The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has emphasised the party’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent 2024 General Election.
His remarks follow a statement made by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, who asserted that the party would resist any attempts by political entities to undermine the election results.
Speaking on the Eyewitness News on Tuesday, Mohammed provided further clarification on the party’s stance.
He noted that while the NPP is prepared to respect the will of the people and step down if voted out but would not allow any political party to adopt a “my way or the highway” approach to the elections.
“The election must be free; it must be fair so that everybody will know that this political party has won the election. We are not going to stand aloof [for] somebody to think that the power belongs to us, it’s eight years.”
“If it is the decision of the people, so be it. Remember we are the only political party that has not staged a coup in this country. We came by the thumb of the people. It is by the power of the thumb. So, if it is by the power of the [people], we are not going to resist anything, but we are very sure that victory will come our way,” he stated.
