The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to partnering with the media, emphasising its pivotal role in national development.

During a media engagement in Accra on Sunday, Dr Bawumia underscored the NPP’s longstanding support for media freedom, highlighting its significance in promoting democratic governance.

“The NPP views the media as an important ally in our national development agenda,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He recalled the significant milestone under former President J. A. Kufuor’s administration, where the criminal libel law was repealed, allowing the media to operate freely and fully.

Dr Bawumia assured journalists of continued collaboration, stating, “We’re partners with you, and partnership I will continue to keep as the new leader of the NPP.”

He emphasised that the NPP will persist in supporting media freedom and fostering a conducive environment for journalists to perform their duties without fear or favour.
