Eric Opoku, the Member of Parliament for Asunafo South and Ranking Member on Food and Agriculture, has announced a significant healthcare initiative for cocoa farmers if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) returns to power in the 2024 elections.

Speaking at the NDC’s manifesto launch, Opoku assured cocoa farmers across the country of free access to healthcare services under a new NDC government led by John Dramani Mahama.

According to Opoku, the NDC plans to extend healthcare benefits to cocoa farmers without requiring them to pay for health insurance.

“Every cocoa farmer in Ghana, when John Mahama assumes the seat, you will be able to attend hospital for free without health insurance. Because the COCOBOD will get health insurance for every cocoa farmer.

“So, we will give you a card and as a cocoa farmer, you will just take it to the hospital. When the card expires, COCOBod will renew it so that every farmer can go to the hospital for free,” he stated.
