Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, has explained why he has not been able to implement some of the policies he prefers in his manifesto while in office as vice president.
This comes on the back of concerns raised as to why he has not implemented his policies but rather waits till he is elected as president.
Responding to these concerns during a media engagement in Accra on Sunday, Dr Bawumia clarified that his role and responsibilities as Vice President differ from those of a President.
He emphasised that now that he is vying to be the country’s president, he has prepared a manifesto with innovative ideas to be executed when he takes office.
“I must have a manifesto otherwise if I do everything now, if I could, what will I do when I come into office? How can you do everything now? Even former president Mahama who was president why didn’t he do everything then? Why is he coming back? He had full authority.
“I don’t have full authority, the budget that has gone to parliament which has been passed is not my budget. Is it mine? It goes in the name of the president; it doesn’t go in the name of the vice president but you have to think about what new you want to do, you come up with new ideas and I have come up with new ideas which I want to do when we come into the office.
“Everyone who is running for office, whether you are Kamala Harris or you are Bawumia, will still have to think about what they want to do when they get into office and this is why I am presenting my new ideas as to what to do,” he stated.
