The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of severely undermining Ghana’s democratic foundations.
He expressed grave concerns over the state of democracy in the country, which he claims has been significantly eroded under the current administration.
Mahama pointed to several key areas where he believes the NPP has failed to uphold democratic principles, including press freedom, judicial independence, and the integrity of electoral processes.
Presenting the NDC’s manifesto at Winneba on Saturday, he argued that these failures have led to a democracy that is unrecognisable compared to previous years.
“They have decimated our democracy beyond recognition. They have destroyed families and livelihoods and pushed millions of our people below the poverty line. Your vote on December 7 will end the tyranny, it will end the cronyism, the corruption, the hardship, and it will also pave the way for the vision and trustworthiness, and I am going to restore that to the Flagstaff House,” he stated.
