The former Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has assured Ghanaians that the party’s next administration will revive the country’s cocoa industry.
He said the party will implement pragmatic policies to bring back smiles to the faces of farmers and strengthen the cedi.
Speaking ahead of the party’s manifesto launch at Winneba on Saturday, Mr. Ampofo noted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s handling of the sector had been a monumental failure.
He said it was for that reason his party would revitalise the industry.
“I want to assure Ghanaians that the NDC which sent cocoa production to 1 million tonnes in 2016 will come and revive the cocoa industry because under the NPP rule, cocoa production has gone down below 500,000 metric tonnes and that has affected the economy of the country because cocoa used to be the biggest foreign exchange earner and a backbone to our economy.”
“I can assure the good people of this country that pragmatic policies will be put in place once again for the revival and revitalization of the cocoa industry to bring back the smiles of our farmers and stabilise the cedi so that the hardship that we are going through will be ameliorated,” Mr. Ampofo stated.
