The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public and the National Democratic Congress, that it will carry out a comprehensive voter exhibition exercise and deliver a credible voter register for the upcoming December elections.
This commitment comes in response to demands from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which urged the EC to promptly release the provisional voter register ahead of the exhibition exercise.
The NDC’s Director of Elections, Dr. Omane Boamah, expressed his concerns through a post on Facebook, where he criticised the EC for delays in releasing the provisional register.
Omane Boamah attributed these delays to what he described as the EC’s incompetence and said that the delay was a deliberate attempt by the EC to provide political parties with a sub-standard voter register.
The EC’s Director of Training, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, denied all the allegations raised by the NDC and other stakeholders in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM on Wednesday, August 14.
He further assured that the EC will provide a quality register that will be accepted by all.
“Why would we fight the same people who are going to help us do the work? We all know the quantum of work to be done…So, they should understand it and once we give it to them, they and the voters and everybody will help to contribute and by the time we finish the eight-day exhibition, we will identify all the challenges and rectify them.”
“They should all expect that when everything is done we will give them the final register. So, we will do good work and give them the final register which will be a quality register,” he stated.
