Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Training at the Electoral Commission (EC), has responded to concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) about the timing of the release of the Provisional Voter Register (PVR).
Dr. Quaicoe stated that the EC is committed to ensuring the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the final voter register, which will be provided after the exhibition period.
His remarks came in the wake of the NDC’s accusations that the EC is deliberately delaying the release of the PVR to hinder the review process before the upcoming August 20 exhibition.
The NDC claims that the delayed release is a calculated move to prevent thorough scrutiny, potentially undermining the fairness of the upcoming elections.
Speaking on Eyewitness News with Selorm Adonoo, Dr. Quaicoe emphasized the importance of cooperation from political parties in the electoral process, assuring that the EC is dedicated to transparency and fairness.
“Why would we fight the same people who are going to help us do the work? We all know the quantum of work to be done. As they [NDC] are saying three days and all, it doesn’t mean that the people who are putting the figures together don’t have bigger work do to. So, they should understand us and once we give it to them, they and the voters and everybody will help to contribute and by the time we finish the eight-day exhibition, we will identify all the challenges and rectify them.
“They should all expect that we will give them the final register. So, we will do good work and give them the final register which will be quality,” he stated.
