Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaians to vote overwhelmingly for the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2024 general elections.
He noted that previous presidents were given the opportunity to lead, and appealed to Ghanaians to similarly give Dr. Bawumia the chance to serve as president.
Gabby expressed confidence that Ghanaians would not regret their decision if Bawumia is elected, emphasising that he is a “man of integrity” who has never been accused of corruption.
In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face on Channel One TV, Gabby praised Bawumia’s character and highlighted his achievements, particularly in the digital sector, positioning him as a solution-oriented leader capable of addressing the country’s challenges.
“We tried [President] Akufo-Addo, we tried [former President J. A] Kufuor, we tried [former President J.J] Rawlings, we tried [former President] Mills and [former President John Dramani] Mahama. But I think that the Bawumia that I know and you know, and Ghanaians have seen with the little space that he’s been given, one of the things that people talk about is corruption, when you look at Bawumia, have you ever seen one single allegation being attached to him? You know what he does? He looks for solutions, he tells us that one of the areas we can tackle corruption effectively is by reducing human interferences and introducing digitisation.
“So, he comes up with solutions, if he can do what he has done as a mate, then I think when he’s given the steering wheel, let’s try him and I think Ghanaians won’t regret.”
Gabby expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s ability to effectively address Ghana’s challenges and find solutions if allowed to lead.
He guaranteed that Dr. Bawumia would have full autonomy to lead and make decisions, free from interference, and would be able to work collaboratively with his team to drive progress.
“Even as Vice President, he has been allowed the room to pursue a vision, especially digitalisation. What I see about Bawumia is that he’s a problem solver. He sees a problem and if he’s given the space, and he was given some space by the President and those things that he focused on, he brought solutions. Do you know why we didn’t have a crisis when we didn’t have dollars to buy fuel? Gold for oil, he found the solutions for that.
“That is what you have to look at, you are looking at a leader, a man even as President when he was given the space, the areas that he operated in, he found solutions to problems that had been existing for decades and even more. So, for me, I see him as a man of his vision, a man of integrity. A man who has been part of one of the greatest crises that the world has seen. And was there and knew what we had to go through to overcome the crisis.
“So, when he’s given the opportunity with his own vision, with his own programme, with his own men and women, I believe that he’s the leader that Ghanaians should give an opportunity to.”
