Employees of the Panbros Salt factory, located near Weija junction, are protesting against what they perceive as an attempt by some traditional authorities to allocate parts of the salt mining area to Chinese businesses.
These workers, dressed in red and black, expressed their disapproval through songs and vowed to resist any efforts to seize their land.
Channel One News understands that the potential takeover of the salt mining area could result in job losses for over a thousand workers.
Several distressed workers voiced their concerns to Channel One News, stating that their livelihoods would be at risk if the authorities do not intervene.
“We notice that the Chinese people started encroaching on our land. They are destroying our land. We won’t agree since we don’t have anywhere going. Panbros produces salt and same as Sege so we are contributing our quota.
“We even learnt that the Jubilee House spends a lot on salt. So, if our jobs are destroyed how can we support the country as local producers? President Akufo Addo must act on this. They have even employed the services of land guard and it is scary,” a worker stated.
