The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama called for a more organized system for exporting professionals to foreign countries.
At a recent town hall meeting in Accra on Monday, August 12, the former President highlighted concerns about the current trend of professionals leaving Ghana due to economic challenges, arguing that the process lacks structure and efficiency.
He emphasised that while migration can be beneficial, it should be managed in a way that maximizes value for both the individuals and the country.
“Migration of professionals is not inherently a bad thing, it must happen in an organised manner.”
He proposed that the government should collaborate with countries in need of skilled labour for short-term programmes.
This approach, he suggested, would allow Ghanaians to return home with enhanced skills and experiences that could contribute to the nation’s development.
He added that his vision is to create a system where the migration of professionals is not just a response to economic conditions but a strategic move that benefits both the individual and the country.
