Investigative Ghanaian journalist and author, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has shared insights about his harrowing experiences under the Akufo-Addo government.

During an interview with Bernard Avle on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Manasseh discussed his new book, “The President Ghana Never Got”, and shared his experiences of suffering under the current administration.

He recounted how he sought the help of a therapist after his mental health was severely impacted by death threats, which left him traumatised by the government’s actions.

Manasseh also recalled how he was forced to seek refuge in Germany when the death threats against his life became too intense.

“I have gone through so much that sometimes we don’t say everything that we suffer as journalists. But many do not know that under this administration, it got so bad that my mental health was failing.

“So, I had to reach out to a therapist, one of the executives of the Ghana Medical Association recommended a therapist for me, and, I started the therapy. We go through so much that you have these party people and sometimes government officials who would say that if anybody is talking about not being able to do their work it is not Manasseh.

“But they don’t know the price you pay to do what you do. Death threats and people know of South Africa but they didn’t know that at a point I had to go to Germany,” he disclosed.

He condemned the government’s closure of several radio stations, arguing that it constituted a significant threat to press freedom.

In his new book, Manasseh revealed that he felt more secure critiquing former President John Dramani Mahama than he did under the present government.
