Jacqueline Afful, the Managing Director of Appointed Time Printing Press, has called on Ghana’s major political parties to reconsider their decision to outsource the production of their parties’ paraphernalia from China.
Afful’s appeal follows reports that both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are allegedly printing their campaign materials abroad.
In an interview with Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show, Afful criticised this practice, arguing that it undermines the local printing industry.
“We are pleading with them that capacity is here, the quality, we are able to do the same and once we do this, all the unemployment we speak about, we could also give employment to some Ghanaians around this time.
“For us in Appointed Time, once we do this, we are also able to train the people on printing. So, some of them leave and then they are able to set up their small printing businesses alone.
“… I will use your medium to appeal to the parliamentarians and political parties and businesses that sponsor politicians that Appointed Time Printing, we have the capacity, we are competitive enough to deliver the political paraphernalia,” she stated.
