The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ashaiman, Albert Boakye Okyere, has announced that the assembly’s efforts to improve sanitation have resulted in a zero record of cholera cases within the municipality.
Historically, Ashaiman and neighbouring areas, including Asensu, Nii Amui, and Valco Flat, were plagued by high cholera rates due to open defecation and unclean gutters, posing serious health risks to residents.
During the rebranding ceremony of the Ashaiman Polyclinic to the Ashaiman Municipal Hospital, Mr Okyere highlighted that these sanitation challenges, which previously threatened public health and the environment, have been significantly addressed.
He further assured the public of continued efforts to maintain the cleanliness of the area, ensuring that these improvements are upheld.
“When you don’t have a good sanitised environment that is where cholera comes in. In the past, it was a very common disease in Ashaiman but today per the records we are recording almost zero and that is to tell you the amount of improvement that we have chocked in keeping our environment clean,” he stated.
