The Minority in Parliament has requested a meeting with the Ghana Police Service to discuss the modalities for their rescheduled protest against the management of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
The protest, originally planned for July 30, 2024, was postponed to August 13, 2024, due to conflicting events.
The Minority had notified the police of their intention to protest and demand the resignation of BoG’s Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his deputies, following a GHC60.81 billion loss in 2022 and the allocation of over $250 million for a new headquarters.
The police had approved the initial protest date, but the Minority is yet to receive a response regarding the rescheduled date.
In a statement signed by Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the caucus expressed concern over the lack of response from the police, given the proximity to the rescheduled protest date.
As a result, the Minority is seeking a meeting with the police to finalise arrangements for the demonstration, which will take place on August 13, 2024, between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, using the same route previously agreed upon.

RE: NOTICE FOR PUBLIC PROTEST AGAINST THE GOVERNOR AND BOARD OF THE BANK OF GHANA
Our letter with reference number OP/ML/24/0027 dated 23rd July 2024 on the above subject matter, kindly refers.
The Minority in Parliament received an initial response from the Ghana Police Service dated 17th July 2024 approving our earlier communicated date and route for our planned demonstration against the Governor and deputies of the Bank of Ghana.
The demonstration which was originally scheduled for the 30th of July, 2024, coincided with the planning of activities and events in the lead up to the launch of the NDC’s national campaign in Tamale.
Consequently, the Minority wrote to the Ghana Police Service requesting for the rescheduling of the demonstration from its original date to Tuesday, 13th August 2024, between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. The originally agreed route however remained unchanged.
With just a day to our proposed demonstration, the Minority in Parliament is yet to receive a response from the Ghana Police Service on our request for rescheduling.
In view of the foregoing, the Minority kindly requests a meeting with the Police at a venue and time of your choice, to consider the modalities for our demonstration against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies.
Please accept the consideration of our highest regards.
Thank you.
CASSIEL ATO FORSON (Phd), MP MINORITY LEADER
