The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has proposed extending the validity of driver’s licences to up to 10 years.

According to the Vice President, the current system is inconvenient and must be changed.

Currently, drivers in Ghana are required by law to renew their licenses every two years.

Speaking as part of this campaign tour at Akwatia in the Eastern Region, the vice president noted that the current system creates inconveniences for drivers and must be extended.

“We are all drivers and our drivers’ licences expire every two years, is that not the case? Unless you go to the DVLA to renew it why?

“We are saying let’s extend it, eight years, ten years. Let’s make sure we can have the driver’s license without having to go to renew it every year; it doesn’t make sense,” he stated.
