Charlotte Osei, the former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, has said that she was not surprised by the circumstances leading to her removal from office in 2018, stating that she expected the outcome.
A petition was filed against Charlotte Osei by concerned EC workers in 2017, accusing her of unilateral decision-making and fraudulent activities, including the cancellation of a contract with Superlock Technologies Limited (STL) and authorizing a $76,000 payment to IT firm Dream Oval.
A committee was put together by the then Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, pursuant to Article 146(4) of the Constitution, to investigate separate complaints brought against the three persons by Ghanaian citizens, and recommended their removal from office.
After the committee’s findings President Akufo-Addo, in 2018, removed Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwaa from office following a committee’s report.
Charlotte Osei in an interview on Joy FM said: “I knew the people I was dealing with, so I expected it. It was a whole drama from the petition till the end.”
She added that after reviewing the petition and the findings, it was evident that the process was orchestrated, however, she admitted the outcome.
While she avoided commenting on whether her removal was politically motivated, she assured that the full story would be detailed in her upcoming book.
