The Media Attaché of Team Ghana’s Contingent at the 2024 Olympics, Benjamin William Graham, has refused to blame the change in the lineup of Ghana’s Men’s 4×100 Relay Team for the team’s disappointing performance in the semifinals.

Ghana missed out on progressing to the final of the event after getting disqualified despite finishing sixth in Heat 2 with a time of 38.62 seconds.

Isaac Botsio was part of Ghana’s team that qualified for the Paris Olympics but was replaced in the heat by Abdul-Rasheed Saminu and according to Benjamin William Graham, the change had nothing to do with Ghana’s disqualification that stemmed from a bad baton change between Saminu and Benjamin Azamati who run Ghana’s second leg.

“I won’t say that it was a coaching problem. From Strasbourg (where Ghana camped before the Olympics), the coaches have been working on the baton pass so the circumstances which lead to a team dropping a baton, is not something that is peculiar to us…and one of the reasons the coaches had to spend a lot and lot of time of perfecting it and sometimes I think that the atmosphere and entire competition gets into these athletes but I am not going to say that it was the coaches fault.

“Coaches can do everything theoretically but practically when you get to the stadium you have to make sure you get it right, what has been put on paper. On paper, it was supposed to go perfect but on the day of execution, it wasn’t the best.”
