Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe, Head of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has defended the innocence of the Minority Leader and First accused in the Ambulance Trial, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson amid the recent legal developments in the case.

He indicated that Dr Forson was ready to answer to whatever charges by the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

Tamekloe’s comments come in response to an appeal filed by the Office of the Attorney General against the Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit and discharge the accused.

In the Notice of Appeal filed on August 8, 2024, the office cited as grounds of appeal that the majority decision misdirected itself in the application of the rule on the standard of proof required in determining whether a case has been made for the accused to answer.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM with Selorm Adonoo, Edudzi expressed confidence in the innocence of Dr Forson.

“We have no doubt at all in our minds that the innocence of the Hon Cassiel Ato Forson would forever be vindicated. It matters not whichever channel, whatever it is, Ato Forson has always demonstrated his readiness to answer to whatever charges.”

“In fact, you know even while the appeal that was decided was pending, we went ahead and opened our defence and called our witnesses…That is how confident we are in our innocence. So, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame can do whatever that pleases him.

“I believe that he has become emotionally connected with the case and possibly as a way of giving him a certain emotional respite, he had to put up this appeal. Let’s see how it goes, we are ready,” he stated.
