Police in the Ashanti region have arrested two persons concerning Ghana Water Company Limited’s meter theft in the Suame Municipality.

The suspects were caught during a Unit Committee Members coordinated operation.

According to the Ghana Water Company Limited, there has been rampant meter theft in the Ashanti region in recent years.

The Ashanti Regional PRO for the Ghana Water Company LTD, Ebenezer Padi Narh, in an interview, said at least 70 meters have been reported missing this year in parts of the region.

“This morning we received information from New Suame that the unit committee members undertook some operations. Within the assembly, there is this rampant issue of customers or residents complaining that their water meters are stolen each day.

“So, the unit committee members and the volunteers within the community decided to tackle people they suspected to be engaging in this activity. God being so good, they were able to chase three young guys with sacks. One managed to escape and they were able to apprehend two and from the sack they were able to retrieve three water meters and taps.
