The Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, says the complaints about the size of the government must lead to a reduction in the number of persons employed by the public sector.
This, she believes, can be done through supporting micro, small and medium-sized entrepreneurs to champion the employment of Ghanaians.
She made this known while awarding a GH¢15 million grant for some 30,000 business owners who have been trained by the Ghana Enterprise Agency under the YouStart programme.
“As we grapple with a very youthful population, the public sector, should not be the main employer. It can never be and in fact, if people complain that the government is too big, it means that the public sector should shrink.
“Therefore our effort is to support the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises that will create the needed jobs and the needed skills. With the youth who are so versatile in terms of even the digitalized world, what we provide, you can multiply it in many ways by assessing information across the world, across many places and knowing what else you can add to the training you have received to let your business grow,” she added.
