Ghana will host the 6th0(GGC) in Accra on August 6, 2024.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the summit will take place at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The event will start with a Committee of Experts meeting on August 4, followed by the Council of Ministers on August 5, under the theme “Building a Secure and Prosperous Gulf of Guinea Region for Sustainable Development.”
The summit aims to evaluate the Gulf of Guinea Commission’s work and propose strategies to enhance regional cooperation, transforming the Gulf of Guinea into a zone of peace, security, and sustainable development.
The GGC serves as a platform for consultation among Gulf of Guinea nations, focusing on cooperation, conflict prevention, and management related to border delimitation and the exploitation of natural resources within overlapping Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).
Established by a treaty signed in Libreville, Gabon, on July 3, 2001, the Gulf of Guinea Commission comprises Angola, Congo, Gabon, Nigeria, São Tomé and Príncipe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and Ghana.
