The Federation of Allied Health Professionals, Korle Bu Chapter, has announced that it will completely cease operations on Tuesday, August 6.
The chapter had previously suspended outpatient services at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) on Friday, August 2. This action was taken in response to the hospital’s refusal to establish an independent body to manage its operations.
The group is composed of several professional associations, including the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, the Ghana Physiotherapy Association, and the Ghana Society of Radiographers, among 15 others.
The professionals, who are currently under the management of the hospital’s Medical Directorate, believe that their affairs are not being adequately handled. They argue that a separate directorate should be established to manage their affairs.
Edward Ayem, the Vice Chairman of the Chapter, told Nana Tuffour Boateng on Point Blank on Eyewitness News that the chapter had been forced to take this step because the KBTH management and board had ignored the chapter’s concerns.
“From [Saturday] we are withdrawing even in patient service and that is going to happen. We are totally laying down our tools on Tuesday and then on Wednesday the rest of the country will follow.”
“This has not been our desire at all but the management and board of KBTH has turned a deaf ear to all our pleas and all our cries. I mean what is so difficult about creating a directorate for this large chunk of health professionals? What is so difficult about this,” he further queried.
