Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has announced that the cost of public transportation will be decreased by at least 40% before the December elections with the introduction of electric vehicles for public transportation.

Speaking at the Ofie Mega Walk in Akropong, Dr. Bawumia revealed that the country will shift from dependence on diesel, gas, and petrol to electric vehicles for public transportation.

Dr. Bawumia assured that all estimates have been concluded, and the electric vehicles will arrive in the country before the December elections.

“I’ll change the dependence on oil and gas for fuel on public transports from diesel and petrol, we are moving to electric power, we are moving to electric vehicles. We are adding one-wheelers, two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

“We are already done with the estimates on the electric vehicles and fortunately, the buses will be in before the December election. This will enable the cost of public transportation to [decrease] at least 40 per cent.”

In addition, he announced a tax amnesty for all businesses if elected president and promised a 10% flat rate tax policy to ease the sufferings of business owners.

He explained that this policy, similar to Estonia’s, will allow businesses to calculate their tax liability and be free from Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) harassment.

“I’m also introducing a new tax policy for businesses men and women, which is the flat rate of tax. Like Estonian, if it’s 10%, everybody will enjoy 10%. You could calculate your tax liability and be free from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). Before the initiative, next year, businesses and individuals will enjoy tax amnesty to ensure nobody owes GRA.”
