Lawyers for the board chairman of the Audit Service, Professor Edward Dua Agyeman, have accused the chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, of attending political rallies despite seeking a medical excuse to absent himself from the court.

This is in relation to a defamation case filed by Dua Agyeman against Asiedu Nketia for some disparaging comments he made against him.

Lawyers for Dua Agyeman made this allegation after Asiedu Nketia was absent from court on Wednesday, July 31, when the case was called. His lawyers explained that Mr Nketia was absent because of a medical excuse duty.

The lawyers explained that “on July 4, 2024, they [Mr. Nketia’s lawyers] produced a medical excuse for the defendant, which excuse duty indicated that the defendant would be due for medical review on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.”

Dua Agyeman’s lawyers argue that, despite seeking permission for the said medical review, Mr. Nketia was seen at campaign rallies of the NDC.

Lawyers for the board chair of the Audit Service pointed out that Asiedu Nketia was seen at NDC campaign rallies on July 10, 19 and 24, 2024.

Asiedu Nketia’s lawyers, however, denied the allegations, stating that their client has not made any such appearance as suggested by the lawyers of Prof. Edward Dua Agyeman.

The case has been adjourned to October 8, 2024.
