Private legal practitioner, Justice Abdulai, has initiated legal action against the Attorney General (AG) and the Ghana Police Service (GPS) regarding the recent appointment of a new Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP).
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo recently appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Deputy IGP responsible for operations.
In a writ filed on July 30, Abdulai argues that COP Yohuno’s appointment is “unconstitutional, null and void.” He is seeking a court order to prevent COP Yohuno from acting as Deputy IGP in charge of operations.
Abdulai also requests an order to bar the Inspector General of Police and any commands under him from recognizing or issuing instructions to COP Yohuno in his newly appointed role.
The case raises significant constitutional and legal questions regarding the appointment process within the Ghana Police Service.
