Renowned Ghanaian media figure, Kofi Okyere Darko, better known as KOD, has disclosed that his mother played a foundational role in the 31st December Women’s Movement.

The 31st December Women’s Movement was a prominent women’s group in Ghana, inaugurated on May 15, 1982.

The movement, named in commemoration of the 31st December Revolution, sought to engage women in the revolutionary process, elevate their awareness of national affairs and political matters, and inspire them to participate in activities beyond commerce.

In a conversation with Bernard Avle on the Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, KOD highlighted his mother’s crucial role in founding the 31st December bakery, an initiative aimed at women’s empowerment.

“My mother was very pivotal in the establishment of the 31st December bakery which was also meant to empower not just women around Ghana but also the women who were married to men in the security services because most of them stayed at home just to take care of the kids once their husbands were out,” he stated.
