Malik Basintale, the Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that the party’s decision to launch its campaign in Tamale was a strategic move to demonstrate the northern regions’ support for the party in the upcoming December elections.

The NDC initiated its national campaign for the 2024 general elections in Tamale, Northern Region, on Saturday, July 27.

In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Basintale explained, “We chose Tamale because everybody in the five northern regions will join Ghanaians to vote and elect who becomes the next president but most importantly, we chose Tamale to show the entire country that Northerners are not divided on who to choose in the upcoming election.

“Northerns have made a choice, Northerns have decided that they will go with the man who has the Nothern Region at heart, who has the Ghanian people at heart, who has done it before and is tried and tested and they will hundred times choose that person over a man who goes about telling lies, a man who hasn’t done anything for Northern Regions of this country. The man who came to them only to lie to our chiefs, only to deceive them and only to use the Northern projects as a conduit to syphon money from the state.”

In response to these claims, Haruna Mohammed, the Deputy General Secretary of the ruling NPP, countered that the NPP had surpassed the NDC in all aspects of development in the five regions. He expressed confidence that the voters in these regions would support the vice president and NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the polls.
