Fire has ravaged a two-story hostel accommodating some students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
On Thursday night, July 25, a commercial fire completely burned the entire second floor of the nine-bedroom apartment, leaving affected students stranded.
The students’ belongings have been reduced to ashes as they could not salvage any of their items, although no casualty was recorded.
In an interview with Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Fire Service, DO3 Peter Addai, highlighted the efforts to put out the raging fire and mentioned that investigations are underway to identify the cause of the fire.
The fire officer also noted that eleven rooms were salvaged and are habitable.
The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of KNUST has thus made temporary arrangements to accommodate the affected students at the SRC hostel.
The Council has also urged all students to adhere to safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
