The Office of the Special Prosecutor has acknowledged receipt of a petition from the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for an investigation into an alleged dubious procurement deal for ambulance spare parts worth $34.9 million (GH₵538 million) by the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.
The North Tongu MP on July 22, accused the former Finance Minister and former Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, of conniving with a private company to defraud the state. He claims Ofori-Atta hastily approved the deal just five days before he was removed from office.
Ablakwa highlighted that the beneficiary company, Service Ghana Auto Group Limited, was incorporated on April 24, 2020, which raises questions about its capacity to service ambulances that had been commissioned in 2019.
In a statement signed by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng noted that the office will commence investigation as soon as it establishes that the case brought it is within its mandate.
“We have acknowledged receipt of a filed complaint as titled above. The Special Prosecutor will direct the commencement of an investigation if he determines that the matter is within the mandate of the Office of the Special Prosecutor. You may be contacted for further assistance should the need arise.
“Please accept the compliment of my highest consideration,” he stated.
