The Majority in Parliament has reiterated its call for John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress’ flagbearer, to accept a debate invitation from Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s flag bearer, ahead of the December polls.

The caucus said the debate would give Ghanaians the opportunity to compare the two parties and determine who is better equipped to manage the economy.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, July 24, the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin noted that Dr. Bawumia is ready to debate on key issues and urged the NDC not to avoid the debate.

“We the majority caucus are by this calling on President John Mahama, a former President of Ghana and Flagbearer of the NDC not to run away from the debate with Dr Bawumia.

“We are not afraid of the facts or the figures, we are not afraid of the records. We know that we have not achieved 100% success. We conceded that there are challenges but we are far better in terms of governance.

“It is a reason why our Flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is ready to debate on the issues. We don’t believe in the politics of name-calling, insults and insinuation. We believe that the facts can speak for themselves,” he stated.
