A near altercation occurred at the 12th commemoration of the passing of late former President John Evans Atta Mills, involving Koku Anyidoho, a former aide to the president, and members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The incident took place at the Asomdwee Park after Mr Anyidoho overstepped his allocated time for paying tribute to the late president. More details are provided in the following report.

July 24, 2012, is etched in the memory of Ghanaians as the day they lost their cherished President, Professor John Evans Atta-Mills.

A dozen years after his demise, the memorial ceremony was on the verge of disruption when Anyidoho, the founder of the Atta-Mills Institute and a former aide to the late president, had a disagreement with the late president’s family and NDC members over access to Asomdwee Park. In the aftermath of this incident, the late president’s sister expressed her disapproval of Mr. Anyidoho’s actions.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the Chairman of the NDC, gave assurances that those responsible for the disruption of the anniversary celebrations would face consequences.

In the course of the tributes, John Mahama, the former President and flagbearer of the NDC, praised the leadership qualities of the late Professor Mills.
