A lecturer at the University of Eswatini and External Supervisor for doctoral, and master’s students at the University of South Africa, Prof. Joseph Kwasi Agyemang has urged the Ghanaian youth to embrace Technical and Vocational education as it has the potential to empower them to create their jobs.
Professor Agyemang called for an attitudinal change towards Technical and Vocational as it has the power to reduce unemployment in the country.
Speaking to Channel One News during his visit to his former school the Sunyani Technical University, where he had his Higher National Diploma, Professor Agyemang also commended the government for the investment it is making in Technical and Vocational education in the country.
“Each and everyone will graduate and they all look to the government for employment. But here is the case, when you pass through technical institutions you are trained to become a technical person, you are trained to become someone who can create and you are also trained to become someone innovative. So, when you finish some such institutions, you will be able to create something for yourself without looking to the government for employment. I will advise the youth to take technical institutions, especially technical universities very seriously. The programmes that are run by those universities are hands-on and if you are serious and you want to get employment, at least you can create for yourself and earn your living,” he stated.
