Chiefs and residents of Mepe in the Volta Region are living in fear following an announcement by the Volta River Authority (VRA) of another spillage of the Akosombo Dam.
The VRA which has begun an extensive community engagement ahead of the spillage says this year’s impact will be minimal.
But the Chiefs are worried about the impending spillage.
Manklalo of the Mepe Traditional Area, Togbe Korsi Nego IV said another spillage will not augur well for the community.
“This year, we have heard another sad news that there’s going to be a possible controlled spillage. Last year [2023], I said that committees should be set up to investigate and plan future spillages, but nothing was done about it, we heard that an inter-ministerial committee was set up.
“We have been hoping that the inter-ministerial committee will come to us as the affected persons and listen to our challenges. But up to now, we have not met with the inter-ministerial committee,” Manklalo of the Mepe Traditional Area said.
