The Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, has assured that his outfit is committed to ensuring peace before, during, and after the 2024 general elections, noting that individuals who attempt to incite violence will be dealt with according to the law.
The minister, speaking at the commissioning of a police shop at the Criminal Investigation Department at the Police headquarters in Accra, assured the public that his outfit, together with the security agencies, will ensure that there is no violence during the period of the elections.
“The president has charged me with a simple task to ensure that this year’s election, the police and security agencies will discharge their duties professionally to ensure that the Ghana that we live in will continue to live in, and also for us to send an example to other counties, especially our neighbouring counties.
“So, often, we read in the newspapers, watch videos, and see people threatening on social media about how they are going to kill people, among others.
“Very soon, under the False Publication Act, the law and a court of competent jurisdiction will deal with anybody who makes a threatening statement to incite violence before, during, and after the elections.
There will be no violence before, during, or after the elections. If there is anybody who is thinking so, please rehearse your strategy. Let us allow the people of this country to come and exercise their franchise, and Ghana will move forward,” he stated.
