A joint statement by the Ghana Journalist Association, the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association, and the Media Foundation for West Africa has condemned certain unethical comments made by Blessed Godsbrain Smart, also known as Captain Smart, on Accra-based Onua TV.
The controversial broadcaster is alleged to have described anyone with the intention to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in December’s election as a beast.
The statement issued on July 16, urged the management of Onua TV to take action against the presenter.
“Over the weekend, for example, we heard the disturbing and reckless comments of our very own colleague, blessed Godsbrain Smart, aka Captain Smart, made on Accra-based Onua TV. He is described as a beast who will vote for the New Patriotic Party in the December elections.
“Given the severity of his utterances and the ethical breech, we call on the board and management of Media Generale to take immediate action to impose appropriate sanctions on Mr. Smart.
“This will not serve as a deterrent to others but will enhance public confidence in the media organisation as an organisation that detests unprofessional conduct,” it stated.
