The Minority in Parliament has urged President Akufo-Addo to ensure disciplinary action is taken against three senior police officers found culpable in a leaked tape that revealed plans to remove the IGP, Dr. Goerge Akuffo Dampare from office.
A report of an ad hoc committee established by Parliament to probe the matter found that the three senior police officers, COP Alex George Mensah, Supt., George Lysander Asare and Supt. Emmanuel Eric Gyebi, misconducted themselves, a major offence under police regulations, hence the need to be sanctioned in accordance with the police disciplinary procedure.
Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah urged the President to act on the recommendations of the report with urgency.
“It is important and should never happen again that high-ranking police officers will descend so low to be proud to be talking the way they talked on the tape that they can somehow get into the political arena and be promoted to do that political party’s bidding and so it is important that the president will invoke the right sections of the constitution to ensure disciplinary actions are taken against these police officers and it is critical that this is done.”
