Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in health have confirmed that all the medical supplies that were stuck at the Tema Port for the past year have been cleared by the government.
After several agitations from stakeholders and the minority caucus in Parliament over the long delays in clearing the medical supplies donated by the Global Fund, the government has finally cleared them.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, assured that the supplies would be cleared within two weeks.
In an interview with Citi News, the acting chairman of the Ghana Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund, Ernest Amoabeng, indicated that distribution to the regions has commenced while the warehouse carts the goods in batches.
He revealed that the Global Fund is happy with the situation.
“I can confirm to you that the clearing of the containers is still ongoing. Last week we visited the warehouse that has been taking delivery of the containers, and we were told that all the containers have been released by the port.
“So they were carting them from the port to the warehouse. As of Monday this week, we received information that the last batch chit that was needed from the GRA for the release of the 64 that was still outstanding has been issued.
“So, I can confirm to you that technically all the containers have been released by the government from the port,” he stated.
