The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for the Manhyia South, following Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s elevation to the party’s running mate position.

This has left the Manhyia South Parliamentary seat vacant, though Parliament has yet to make an official declaration.

The party pledged a free and fair electoral process and urged prospective aspirants to be mindful of their utterances, emphasising that this is an internal affair.

Danquah Smith Buttey, the New Patriotic Party’s first National Vice Chairman in the region, in an interview with Citi News, said candidates who wish to contest the seat will be required to pay an amount of GH¢35,000 for the filing.

However, females, persons under 40 years old (youth), and physically disabled persons who wish to contest the seat will pay GH¢17,500.

“From today that I have opened nominations, tomorrow we are going to close nominations. We conduct vetting on Wednesday and Sunday when we conduct the election. From tomorrow until Saturday, if anyone has any grievances, they can bring them to the constituency office; they will be forwarded to the regional headquarters in Accra,” he stated.

Meanwhile, shortly after NAPO’s confirmation as running mate on July 5, posters featuring Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, the Manhyia South Constituency Treasurer and NAPO’s biological brother, surfaced, indicating his intention to contest for the parliamentary seat.

Channel One News also learned that other potential candidates have begun meeting with delegates behind closed doors, signalling a competitive race ahead.

But so far, four individuals have picked their nominations.
