Chief Justice recommends five Judges for Supreme Court

The Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, has proposed five Judges to be appointed to the Supreme Court. 

This was contained in a letter to the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on May 30.

The names nominated include Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botchwey, the presiding judge in the Ambulance case involving the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.

The others are Justice Afia Asare Botwe, Justice Cyra Pamela Koranteng, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, Justice Eric Kyei Baffuour, and Justice Angelina Mensah Homiah.

The Chief Justice in the letter also made the president aware that Justice Asante’s tenure at the ECOWAS Court ended on July 31, 2022. However, he will be at post till the end of 2026 and return to Ghana.

“He was requested to remain at post on account of the withdrawal of Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso from the community. 

“His current tenure is expected to end in 2026 or earlier when he is expected to return to Ghana’s judiciary.”
