The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has advocated for the repositioning of the National Development Planning Committee (NDPC) to ensure the continuity of projects after a change of government in the nation.
According to him, this will help save resources and prevent the deterioration of infrastructural developments such as roads and schools, among others.
During his remarks at the Ghana Compact Citizens Convention, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu emphasised that maintaining continuity in government projects is crucial for sustainable national development.
“When we leave that stretch unattended to for even one year and go back, we have to scarify the whole thing again and begin from ground zero; that is cost. Today, a kilometre of asphalt double-layer road costs this country $1.3 million and $1.7 million. So, if we leave it and have to go back, 10 kilometres will be $15 million in gone waste.
“So, it is important that we reposition the National Development Planning Commission and I was saying that by our constitution and by the establishment of the directory of state policy, all political parties are confined to the centre.
“So, NPP…belong a little bit to the right of the centre, NDC, in spite of themselves, belong just a little bit to the left of the centre,” he stated.
