The overlord of the Waala traditional area, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV is demanding a detailed report from the police on the gruesome killing of some 13 persons in Wa between 2022 and 2023.

The chief made the request at a meeting with the Upper West regional security council following the murder of two additional private security men in the Wa town on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

In a press statement issued in Wa after the meeting and signed by the overlord on behalf of the Waala traditional council, Naa Pelpuo said the delay by the police to update the inhabitants on the outcome of their investigations on the killings has dampened the spirit of volunteerism in many people especially within the Wa town.

“The Traditional Council has as a matter of urgency, requested for an update on the investigations into the previous ritual murders. We cannot fight against fresh murders if we have no idea of what happened to those people apprehended after the previous ones. This has, to a large extent, dampened the spirit of volunteerism in many people”.

The overlord also requested for the security to work hand in hand with local volunteers to ensure no more lives are lost in the Wa town.

About 15 people, mostly private security men have so far been gruesomely murdered in what appears to be ritual killings within the Wa town by unknown assailants.

Though some suspects were arrested in connection with the killings, not a single individual has been convicted so far of the ungodly acts that have kept shivers down the spines of many inhabitants of Wa.

Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV disclosed that it was agreed at the meeting that security should be beefed up with improved street lights, police visibility and patrols as well as strong collaboration between the security and the neighbourhood watch volunteers.

While urging the inhabitants of Wa to volunteer information to the security forces, Naa Pelpuo charged landlords and owners of hotels operating in Wa to be on the lookout for Persons with suspicious behaviours and report them to the police.a
