Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the convener of the Hand Off Our Hotels demonstration, has given indication that the Central Region will be the next location for the demonstration should the government fail to respond to the petition presented today, June 18.
The North Tongu MP led a group of demonstrators to present a petition to the government to halt the sale of 60% of SSNIT’s stake in four hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News, Ablakwa noted that there is a growing call for a second demonstration, particularly from the Central Region, which houses two of the affected hotels—Elmina and Ridge Royal.
“We will wait for a response in a few days. We have been receiving calls from the Central Region, and there is high appettite for a second demonstration. They have two of the hotels affected: Elmina and Ridge Royal. The Edina Traditional Council has already written against the sale of the one at Elmina. The Omanhene himself signed that letter. If the president does not act and they don’t back out on this transaction, it is very likely that the Central Region will be our demonstration stop,” he stated.
