During the ongoing trial concerning the ambulance case, Richard Jakpa, who stands as the third defendant, claimed that the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, intimated that the prosecution’s aim was to incarcerate the former Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
In his testimony on Thursday, June 13, Jakpa revealed under cross-examination by the legal representatives of Ato Forson that the Attorney General had indicated Dr. Ato Forson as the principal defendant in the case.
Jakpa also mentioned that his cooperation and document sharing with the Attorney General were premised on the promise that a no case submission would be made on his behalf, leading to his discharge.
He further expressed that based on this promise, he was under the impression that the Attorney General would be supportive of him, which seemed to be confirmed when he received the addendum to the primary contract between the Government of Ghana and Big Sea prior to the conclusion of the prosecution’s case.
Meanwhile, the High court in Accra accepted into evidence the audio recording between Richard Jakpa and the Attorney General for the purposes of the cross examination of Richard Jakpa after the Office the Attorney General rejected to the relevance of the audio to the main trial.
The judge, however, after reviewing the arguments for and against its admission ruled that it should be admitted.
Lawyers for the accused, Ato Forson, have since began cross examining Richard Jakpa on the audio.
It can be recalled that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), released a 16-minute tape as evidence to support the claims made by the third accused, Richard Jakpa, in the faulty ambulance case involving the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
The recording captured a conversation between Attorney General, Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa, in which Dame allegedly coached Jakpa on the statements to make in court, specifically targeting the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
